As I type this I’m also cooking the evening meal which happens to be a roast chicken dinner. The problem however is that my roast dinner doesn’t seem to be cooking at the usual speed, and now isn’t ready when I thought it would be (much to the horror of my hungry 17 years old son). On further investigation as to why the chicken isn’t cooking I’ve discovered that my oven-door is no longer sealing properly, and therefore much of the heat is seeping out of the door, instead of doing it’s job cooking my dinner.
My leaking oven door reminds me of how we can be when it comes to our spiritual and emotional lives. We can leak and sometimes that leaking isn’t a good thing. When God speaks to our hearts but we don’t take the time to seal His words in our hearts they can leak out and the “heat or fire” of those words and the change they were designed to bring can be lost. Instead of there being a fire within us, creating passion, enthusiasm and a willingness for God to use us, we can become luke warm and so fail to reach our destiny in Him
To be honest luke warm anything doesn’t do much good at all. Luke warm water doesn’t wash the dishes properly, get the suds forming when you wash your hair, remove dirt and grime, or heat anything properly. A luke warm oven doesn’t cook your dinner in time, and a luke warm relationship and heart isn’t one that can be trusted or relied upon.
Instead, I think God wants and actually requires us to be on fire and hot on the heels of all that He has made us to be. When He places a fire of purpose and His words within us, it’s then our job to make sure we don’t “leak’. That there is no open or leaky doors in our lives where un-dealt with issues, habits and mindsets leave gaps in our life where the enemy is able to distract and steal from us, or where God’s Words to us are not valued and held onto and therefore fade away from our consciousness and hearts.
Today don’t let the passion and fire that God made you to carry die or slowly leak out of your life. Seal up the doors, deal with any distractions, complacency and negative habits and then ask God to light or rekindle the fire within you, so that who He is and what He says about you keeps burning in your heart.
“Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it alive. Serve the Lord.” (Romans 12:11 NIV)
John answered them all, “I baptise your with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire”. (Luke 3:16)
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 ESV)
Prayer: Lord renew a right spirit within me and stir my heart up to burn for you. Please help me to face and deal with any distractions or issues that may be causing me to “leak,” so that who you say I am and your purpose for me will be sealed within my heart. In Jesus name Amen.
