When I was a child, I remember having an expectancy that Jesus was coming back soon. I’d look out of my window before climbing into bed each night, looking for Jesus and the angels coming through the night sky to whisk me away to heaven. I was so expectant that I would talk to all the other kids on the school bus and ask them, “did you know Jesus is coming back, and are you ready when He does?” I talked about it so much that my school principal told my mum about my “preaching”.
Expectancy is the state of thinking or hoping that something, especially something good, will happen. We have an attitude of anticipation, expectation, eagerness, and hope.
Some of the most exciting periods of our lives are the times of anticipation and expectancy. When we are children (or maybe still as adults), it’s usually expectancy for our birthdays, holidays, and Christmas. Later it’s meeting our life partner, expecting a baby, travel, jobs etc. Expectancy causes us to have something to look forward to; it quickens our steps and makes our future look brighter.
When Jesus returned to heaven after rising from the dead, He left the church in an attitude of expectancy.
Firstly, He said He would return again and for His first disciples to, "not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.” For John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4)
Jesus anticipates that when we pray, we will be expectant and eagerly seek and expect in faith for His presence and power to move in our midst.

A key to expectancy is to believe that something good is going to happen
When it comes to expecting the things of heaven, it’s believing that God will do what He says, meaning we will not give up waiting if we need and remain expectant because we believe God is faithful and true to His Word.
Today I encourage you to lift your expectation for good things to break loose in your life and to continue to have an attitude of anticipation to receive all that God has promised in His Word. Jesus still works miracles, heals diseases, opens blind eyes, and answers prayer.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks, it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who will give him a stone if his son asks for bread? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? “ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:7)
"Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us." (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)
Prayer: Jesus, help me live in expectation of good things happening in my life. I choose today to live in anticipation and trust that you will do what you have promised in your Word. In Jesus name Amen.
