Every day lies come knocking on the door of our minds our hearts. A thought. A fear. A memory that has taken on it's own spin. A whisper that sounds almost believable.
And here’s the thing we can often miss:
A lie has no power until we give it access. That tiny “yes” is the foothold the enemy waits for.
Because strongholds don’t appear fully built. They start as one small thought that slips through the door.
Let it in… and it starts building. Brick by brick .Idea by idea. Fear by fear.
Before long, that lie becomes a structure inside your thinking; like a blockage, and obstacle - like a whole framework the enemy hides behindan a place he builds into because you gave him space.
Paul in the Bible calls these things “strongholds, arguments, and high things that exalt themselves against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:4–5 NLT)
They don’t come from you. They come from the demonic realm, trying to compete with what God says is true.
Jesus makes it clear where lies originate:
“He has always hated the truth… for he is a liar and the father of lies.”- John 8:44 (NLT)
A lie believed empowers the liar... and the enemy can only build with the materials you give him.
And that’s why guarding the door of your life; your heart and mind matters so much.
THE MOMENT EVERYTHING CHANGES
But the moment you say, “No, this thought doesn’t belong here,” everything shifts. It’s like grabbing a bug net, catching an insect so you can pull it down and examining it closely.
You ask:
“Does this thought and imagining come from God? Does this match who He is and who He says I am?”
And if it doesn’t?
You nail it to the cross and shut the door. You refuse to give that thought any more access, influence, or ability to cause damage in your life.
Because really - we have no business thinking or believing anything about ourselves, others, our future, or our circumstances that God Himself hasn’t spoken over or about us.
TRUTH TO HOLD ONTO
Guard your heart - it determines the course of your life.“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”- Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
Take every thought captive - don’t let it wander and slide into places and thinking that's just not healthy.“…take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NIV)
Be washed by the Word - truth dismantles lies.“…having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word.” - Ephesians 5:26 (ESV)
Renew your mind - so your thinking aligns with heaven, not fear. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” - Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Do not give the enemy a foothold - slam the door shut on that liar - Ephesians 4:27 (NIV)
ACTION STEPS
1. Identify the Knock
When a lie comes, pause and ask:“Does this agree with God’s truth?”
2. Catch the Thought
Picture the bug net - capture the thought and pull it down for inspection.
3. Nail It to the Cross
If it's contrary to God's word - Say out loud: "I reject this thought in Jesus’ name.” Replace it with Scripture and what Jesus says about you.
4. Guard Your Inputs
Be intentional with what you watch, listen to, and rehearse over and over in your heart and mind. Think on those things that are beautiful, good, true and worthy of getting a "shout about" - Phillipians 4:8 (The Message)
5. Invite the Holy Spirit
Ask Him to reveal any strongholds and dismantle them with truth.
