It’s relatively easy to blame someone else for our circumstances, or actions in life. There are some terrible situations that occur in people’s lives, and it’s easy to understand how we can stay blaming our behavior and attitudes on these past situations.
However, if we keep basing our life’s choices on these things then we can run the risk of using circumstances or the treatment we experienced from other people as an excuse to stay in captivity and bondage to them. But if we want to live free, one of the best decisions we can make is to stop playing the blame game.
Every time we excuse our bad attitudes, fears, and inadequacies on something or someone else we give in to the temptation of blaming them for our life right now. It’s easier and it makes sense. We tell ourselves, “If they hadn’t done that; if this hadn’t happened, or if only I had been given this opportunity”
But Jesus offers each one of us a means of escape from the “blame game”. We don’t have to remain stuck in our circumstances, or the negative or disappointing issues from our past. (John 8:36; 1 John 3:8)
Jesus offers us the rescue plan (that He executed at the Cross of Calvary.) He will help us break free from any bondage if we will rely on Him and take the steps of faith and trust. We don’t have to remain a victim, stuck in our weaknesses and excuses in a life we don’t like. We may wish we were different, and God says with me you can be.
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” (Matthew 12:26 NLT)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. (Isaiah 41:10)
The important thing is to listen to what God says, and not our excuses, our past life, or the devil’s lies. God is able to help us and nothing is too hard for him to handle. No bondage is too difficult or too ingrained for Him to break; there is no generational curse that will not give way to the blessing of God operating in our life.
Instead, we can take hold of the promises of God, and what He declares about our life. When we begin to keep our minds and hearts turned toward Jesus and listen to His voice, He will provide a way through every circumstance, and a means of escape to truly live free.
Don’t keep playing the blame game and excusing the things you don’t like, or are unhappy about in your life on your past or others.
Today fix your heart and mind on the promises of God for your life and discover for yourself through reading God’s word and spending time with Him to discover what He says about your life and let that shape your future.
Prayer: Lord thank you that I don’t have to remain stuck in the “blame game”; that I am not a victim, and can live free from the trap of excusing my life and choices on others. Help me to take hold of the promises in your word, listen to your voice, and make a decision every day to move forward to better things. In Jesus name Amen.
