28 June – 6940 Days

Today is our eldest son Ben’s 19th birthday, and all-day family and friends have been ringing to say Happy Birthday and remarking to me how quickly the time has passed since he was little and first learning how to run around and kick a ball.

Soccer games and many Saturday’s spent on the side-lines, conversations about every known sports statistic, big hugs, music lessons, food, more food, an immense amount of Weet-Bix, and the “did ya know” random facts Ben is known to come out with are some of what the past 19 years have been full of.

As I reflected on the past 19 years, I calculated it had been 6940 days since Ben was born. I was once again reminded how quickly time passes since the morning he arrived in the world. Birthdays are that yearly prompt to be mindful not to allow things that aren’t important to preoccupy our hearts and minds because time goes very quickly.

We do need to continually remind ourselves that every day is a gift from God and that the people we get to share our lives with are too.

Most of the things we stress about or allow our time and energy to be spent on are things that, for the most part, we won’t even remember in 20 years. God has blessed us with this day, and He wants us to value and make the most of it.

Little boys grow up, things change and move forward, so make the most of every opportunity in your day to connect with God, with those important people in your world, and to fulfil his will for your life.

Trust God to guide and direct you with all the things that so often scream for your attention and time and determine to give your life and energy to those people and things that are important, long-lasting and life-giving so that you will have no regrets.

God’s word encourages us to; “Look carefully how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). Making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”. (Ephesians 5:15-17 amplified)

Prayer: Lord, please help me take some time with you today and that as I do, I will understand what and who is important today. In Jesus Name Amen.
