I shared with a friend today about the importance of not presuming and that just because something worked before or you think you know, its crucial not to presume that its the correct move and strategy now.
When King David and others assumed how they had won the previous battles was the same strategy they were going to face the current enemy, they lost the battle and important ground. However, when they took the time to inquire of the Lord before moving forward, He gave them specific instructions, which led to victory. (1 Sam 23; 30:8; 2 Sam 5:19)
Look at the lives of David as he went into battle, Noah and the building of the ark, Joseph overseeing Egypt during the famine, Jacob as he worked to increase his herds and position and Esther as she laid a plan to save her people from certain death.
The key they discovered was to seek God every move, deal and step they made. Don’t presume, for God has the blueprint for moving forward, and it usually looks different from what we know, did last time or expect.
Read the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and you’ll soon discover that Jesus didn’t pray, speak and minister the same way. Sometimes He just said the Word and people were delivered and healed, other ocassions He spoke and then physically did something, such as when he put mud on the man’s eyes or even spat on them.
God doesn’t usually move the same way twice – He’s too creative for that.
He wants you to seek His way in each situation you face, rather than acting in presumption. He knows the landscape, the plans of the enemy, the hidden agendas and people’s hearts. He knows what is moving and what isn’t, and if we inquire of him, he will shift and adjust what’s needed to enable you to be in the right place at the right time. I’ve discovered heaven is very busy setting up blessings, connections, increase and how we can be involved in his plan, but its vital we get in alignment with Him by listening and seeking his “blueprint” and strategy every time.
God says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
Today don’t presume you know what’s up. As I say, “Presumption is the mother of all stuff up’s”. Inquire and seek God and his wisdom and strategy. Listen, wait and trust that He will lead you in the way to go.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you” (Psalm 32:8 NIV)
Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will do it. He will bring forth your righteousness like the dawn, your justice like the noonday sun.” (Psalm 37:5)
Prayer: Lord, direct and guide my steps today in every move I make and every word I say. Show me the way,, Lord, and give me wisdom as I go through my day. I want to follow your plan for my life today. You lead, and I will follow. In Jesus name Amen.
