11 Feb – A Fresh Start

This week one of our daughters is moving house and is realizing just how much “stuff” she has to relocate. It can be exhausting to sort, pack and move a whole house and the more times you move the more you realise the wisdom there is in not having a whole lot of items you don’t use, need, have multiples of or don’t want anymore. Moving makes you reassess your “stuff” and is a great opportunity for a fresh start.

It’s much like the “stuff” we can carry around on the inside of us too. When we allow ourselves to get weighed down by unforgiveness, worries and cares it makes getting to where we are meant to be going and/or any fresh opportunities much harder to step into.  The process and journey can even be delayed or we can miss opportunities God has planned for us, because we are burdened with emotional, mental, spiritual and even physical “stuff”.

God’s best for us is that we would be able to run; to run freely through life, being guided by His presence and His Word and available to be and go where He says. That sort of lifestyle however is far more difficult or perhaps nigh impossible if we continually refuse or neglect to deal with the issues of our heart and circumstances. We just get so “bogged” down and exhausted from carrying and moving around all our “stuff” that we either don’t hear Him, miss His promptings or are too fearful or full of unbelief to act upon His leading.

Jesus however encourages us to come to Him when we are weary and heavy laden so that He can lift those burdens off our backs. He then says for us to learn from Him on how to live, because His ways are lighter and easier.

He says,  “Come to me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and I will give you rest”. (Matthew 11:28 -29)

Today instead of holding onto parts of your life that perhaps you have outgrown, don’t need or have become detrimental to your growth and health, take some time to have a moving on, moving out clean up and throw out. Examine the condition of your heart, your thoughts, attitudes and relationships and what “stuff” you might be better off letting go of and leaving behind, and then determine to move forward into the fresh next chapter of life that God has planned for you.

“Cast all your cares upon Jesus for He cares for you”. (1 Peter 5:7)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!…” (2Cor 5:17)

Prayer: Lord please help me to be aware of the condition of my heart and any issues that need dealing with, and letting go of in my life. I want to travel through life light and easy so that I can be calm, collected and full of energy for the journey and each new season. In Jesus name Amen
