11 Feb – Faith Fuel

The Bible is a a guide book for life, plus there is some wild stuff in there. If you read it with the right attitude and search for Jesus within its pages, I guarantee you will discover and experience far more than you could ever dream, think or imagine. That’s because it’s a guide and onramp to supernatural and dynamic encounters with a God who still works wonders. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

C.S Lewis wrote about reading the Bible that, “it’s not a question of learning a subject, but of steeping ourselves in a Personality”. That personality is God Himself and when we read His words we get to know who He is and what He is able to do.

One of our daughter is an Exercise Physiologist. She regularly tells us that only doing one session of exercise doesn’t change you, and diets you can’t live with day after day aren’t going to help either. It is regular exercise over weeks and months that dramatically changes us.

The same is true with the Bible. It’s the consistent daily reading and putting into practice what God has said day after day, year after year that changes and benefits us the most.

Food is fuel for the body, just as the Bible is fuel for the soul. Without it, the soul will shrink into a weakened state, just as our muscles do without exercise.” (Jack Deere)

Reading the Bible is vital to spiritual health, and when we follow what it says and get to know the one who spoke the words, we encourage and exercise our faith muscles to grow and develop. It takes time, but it’s repeatedly using our muscles that make us strong.

As Kenneth Hagin said, ”In consistency lies the power.”

Today, make up your mind to set aside a regular time each day to read the Bible and to think upon what it says. Holy Spirit will remind and bring the words you read to your heart and mind so as to guide you in all your ways.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)

2 Tim 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Prayer: Lord, please help me to make reading your Word a priority in my life. There are so many times in a day when I need to hear your voice and receive your guidance. Remind me that hearing your voice each day begins in spending time in Your Word. In Jesus Name Amen.
