12 Nov – Be The Best Version Of Yourself

If we want the world to be a better place, people to be more considerate, hardworking, consistent, compassionate and for society to value things that really matter then perhaps firstly we need to look at ourselves.

Are we being the best person we can be? Are we working on improving ourselves and honest about our own weaknesses and failings? It’s easy to point the finger at all those around us but have you taken a look at yourself lately and acknowledged any areas in your life you need to address?

John Maxwell calls it “Lifting the Lid” when we acknowledge that we have an area in our life that is going to require us to push through and overcome.

What’s important to understand is that everyone has lids in their lives and lids don’t just disappear when a person receives a title, achieves a position, or is invested with power. The issue is never whether we have lids, the issue is what are we going to do about them, because if we want to reach our potential and be all that God created us to be, we are going to have to lift the lids on our lives.

Today take an honest look at yourself. Not to get down on yourself but so you can plan and determine to change it up, deal with and grow to your greatest potential. Is your lid that you don’t stick to things, or that you are impatient, lazy, inconsistent, fearful, proud or judgmental. Do you always take the easy road or never attempt anything new? Are you short-tempered, unforgiving, a worrier or someone who doesn’t listen to advice or can be told anything?

Life really is so precious and those around us too important not to make an effort to lift the lid on our potential and ability to influence for good. Everyone wants an opportunity, but many people want those opportunities to come to them before they start working on and improving themselves. “When I get this happening in my life and gain that position or relationship then I’ll start growing.” But that’s doing things backwards. As the saying goes, “we dress for the job (role or relationship) we want”.

While others wait to see what will happen, those who lift lids step forward, and start taking steps NOW to grow and develop. They make choices everyday how they will act, what they will say and not say, who they will listen to. For it’s in the DAILY choices we make that enact change and lift our lids.

Plus when we “lift our lids” it also enables those around us to step up and to be grow too.

Today if you want the world to be a better place, your home to be a full of peace and harmony, your relationships to be healthy and to be successful at the things you put your hand to, then I encourage you to seek God, take an honest look in the mirror and start to “Lift your Lids”.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” (1 Timothy 1:7)

Prayer: Lord would you please show me where I have lids in my life so that I can make those daily choices that will bring change. Thank you that when I am weak you are strong and that nothing is impossible when I trust and lean on you. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In Jesus name Amen.
