To seek means to search, find or discover something, and from the moment we are born, we seek food, comfort, companionship, success, dreams becoming a reality and meaning for our existence.
But Jesus said the primary thing we are to seek is God’s Kingdom and His way of doing life and that when we do all the other things that we can spend a lifetime chasing after will be added to our lives also.
“So above all, constantly chase after the realm of God’s kingdom and the righteousness that proceeds from him. Then all these less important things will be given to you abundantly.” (Matt 6:33 TPT)
Jesus didn’t say for us to seek food, money, fame, success, a partner, or any other pursuit that popular culture says is important. He said, seek after and love me with all your heart, soul, and mind. (Matt 22:37)
Once a man ran up to Jesus and knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do so that I may inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him……..” You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’”And he said to Him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth.”Looking at him, Jesus showed love to him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”But he was deeply dismayed by these words, and he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property. (Matt 19:16-30)
This man didn’t understand that Jesus was trying to get abundant life to him for as he gave to the poor the man would have stepped into a Kingdom way of living and thinking. As he gave, he would have been sowing seed so that God could meet his every need and bless him. He would have gained life, freedom, peace, increase and blessing, but instead, he walked away with only his money.
Today I encourage you to seek after Jesus with your whole heart, mind and strength and remember anything He ever asked you to give is so you can receive. As you seek Him, seek wholeheartedly with everything you have. Seek with an expectation and believing that God will add to your life and do exceedingly more than you can ask, think, dream or possibly imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
“Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD“. (Jeremiah 29:13)
Prayer: Lord, I seek you today and choose you over anything or anyone else. Please help me to run after you with all that I am and have today. In Jesus name Amen.
