19 June – Am I Too Blind To See Where This Is Going?

show me the path

A few years ago I was in a meeting and a blind man was sitting behind me. God was moving in our midst and there was a tangible presence in the room. Suddenly the man without physical sight exclaimed “I can see angels – look angels”, as he started pointing to the space above and in front of Him. We could all feel heaven’s presence in the room, but this man could “see” far more clearly than any of us.

I’m often reminded of this experience and the importance of not relying primarily upon our physical sight to discern truth and receive revelation. God has wired us to be able to “see” into another realm that is not always visible to our natural eye. It takes having spiritual sight, where we can “see” both the darkness and the light working.

Many times I have not received any clarity about a person or situation in my life until I’ve adjusted my vision and sought to “see” and discern in the spirit what is actually going on. I almost have to switch off my natural sight and turn up my spiritual sight. Otherwise I’m literally too “blind” to see where things are going or the truth about a person’s heart and motives.

I recently mentioned to a friend of mine how important it is to discern and ask for wisdom as to what Spirit is behind both his surroundings and the people he meets and talks to. If we want to “see” clearly all that is going on we can’t rely simply on our natural sight. We will only see a part of the picture and will miss things, make mistakes and take wrong paths. Seeing in the Spirit helps us to be able to discern people’s hearts, motives and the spirit behind their words and actions. So many times what appears to be okay and harmless in the natural is exactly the opposite, which is why God says to “walk in the spirit and to not be governed by our flesh and our natural way of doing things”.

“God instructs us to, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:16-18)

We grow in being led by the Spirit of God by asking to see spiritual things and by centring in on God. We lean in past our own desires and any pain in our hearts to the point where we are able to connect deeply with Him. In that place, beyond our souls (our natural thoughts, feelings and sight) we will begin to “see” clearly as God illuminates the path and reveals truth to us.

Today I really encourage you to seek after God in a deeper way. Practice leaning into Jesus and allowing Him to illuminate the path ahead of you. He will reveal the real truth about every person, opportunity and situation you face and save you from confusion, heartache, wasted time and from being, “someone who is too blind to see where this is going.”

“Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of your word makes my pathway clear.” (Psalm 119:105 TPT)

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26 NKJV)

Prayer: Lord please help me to go deeper with you and to walk and see more clearly in the Spirit. Please illuminate the path before me and reveal the truth about the people and circumstances in my life. In Jesus name Amen.
