2 Jan – Roadtripping

Today we were roadtripping Down South, which is a holiday spot of our state filled with beaches, wineries, winding country roads and boutique factories filled with yummy tastes, smells and things to look at. It’s one of our favourite places to go.

Over the years we’ve discovered many amazing spots to visit as we wandered down little roads and ventured into a new cafe, gallery, winery, secluded beach or picnic spot. We now have our favourites destinations on our road trips but are always on the lookout for a new find.

A think life is largely Ike roadtripping. We know the general direction we want to head, but there are many places we can discover and enjoy on the journey. The secret is to know when those little surprise adventures are a lovely bonus and when they are going to lead to a dead end or take us in a completely wrong direction.

Just like on our roadtrips I believe Jesus always leads and guides us, and I’ve now lost count of the amount of times He has directed us somewhere that we might not have planned or expected and its turned out to be a great spot and a huge blessing.

In life however we can hesitate to step out from the known or predictable because we get scared that we are going to make a mistake or get lost or harmed along the way. As a result we can hesitate to follow our dreams or the gentle promptings Jesus gives us to make a move or to try something new. Perhaps because we firstly don’t trust ourselves enough, and secondly we aren’t sure of God’s leading or our ability to discern His voice clearly. Instead we hesitate, procrastinate and step back in fear, and miss out as a result on half the fun.

However life, after all is a journey and the fear of making a mistake shouldn’t stop us from embarking on adventures and doing new things. Jesus promises He will be riding right along with us and if we are listening and being sensitive to His guidance, which is found by stopping and listening out to Him and following his Word, we have no need to fear we will get lost. Plus if we do make a wrong turn or take a road that leads to a dead end He is an expert at rescuing lost sheep. He’ll leave everything else in actual fact to come get us. (Matthew 18:12-14)

Today go out and enjoy life. Follow the dream God has already placed in your heart. Get quiet with Him, listen and allow yourself to dream; make some goals for the year, write them down; make a vision board or wall. Then take some time to plan and act to explore and achieve them.

And remember half the fun in life is not only in reaching our destination and the fulfillment of a dream, but also the journey it takes to get there. Happy roadtripping!

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3)

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Prayer: Lord thankyou that you promise you will always lead and guide me, and that if by chance I miss your voice or end up somewhere that is not going to take me where I need to go that you will always lead me back home. Please help me to dream and plan some adventures and road trips with you today. In Jesus name Amen
