2 Oct – What Are You Thinking?

I’ve learnt to take time to think about what I’m thinking about. Our minds and hearts are like sponges and what we surround ourselves with we will soak up and then produce in our lives.

It helps for me to imagine taking a net and catching each of my thoughts as they flit about in my mind. Then I examine them to see whether they’re a productive thoughts or not. If they’re not Iaim on focusing on replacing that thought with, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

It’s important to remember that just because we think a thought doesn’t mean we have to accept it before we assess it’s worth. Especially when we’re surrounded by so much noise, opinion and the power of suggestion. The world around us suggests concepts and opinions to our thoughtlife that are false all the time. Plus we must contend with the Father of liars the devil, who uses others or his demons to whisper absolute rubbish to us. (John 8:44)

Proverbs 15:14 says, “A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash” (NLT). If we don’t want toxic thoughts or things that are going to weaken our mind and faith, we can choose to fill our minds and hearts with what we do want to produce.

Thankfully when we accept Jesus into our lives we are given the “mind of Christ’, meaning we have the ability to think as He thinks. It’s like we’ve been given spiritual intelligence. The bible says we can walk in this spiritual intelligence in an increasing manner as we are”transformed by the renewing of our mind” and seek to have the eyes of our understanding enlightened so we can know the hope to which we are called to live in. (Rom. 12:2; Eph 1:18)

Today I encourage you to seek to grow in your spiritual intelligence. Determine to clear out and to renew your thoughts. Check what you’re thinking about and whether your thoughts line up with what God’s word says about your life, your future and how He does things?

“Jesus said, “For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, and nothing concealed that will not be known and illuminated. Pay attention, therefore, to how you listen. Whoever has will be given more, but whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him.”(Luke 8:17-18)

“I ask that the eyes of your understanding may be enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” (Ephesians 1:18)

Prayer: Lord I want to be strong-minded and to be free of any strongholds or thinking that is toxic. Please give me wisdom and open the eyes of my understanding to be enlightened; that I may know what is the hope of God’s calling and the riches of the glory of His inheritance. In Jesus Name Amen.
