To underestimate someone is to underrate, think less of, misread and be wrong about. We can underestimate ourselves, other people, situations and we can underestimate God.
Moses a famous leader in history and the bible was responsible for leading several million people out of captivity in Egypt to the land God had promised them. The Israelites story is known because God did the impossible to fulfil his promises to them. However they are also known for their repeated complaining and underestimation of God. Even when God parted the waters of the Red sea so that they could all walk through on dry land, brought water forth from the rock to quench their thirst in the desert, provided manna from heaven to feed them, and caused their clothes to not wear out, they still underrated and thought less of God’s love and supernatural ability to care for them than they should have. When the people grew tired of eating the bread like manna God had provided for them in the middle of the desert, they started complaining and started to talk about how much better it was back in Egypt because they wanted to eat some meat.
So Moses began to try and figure out how he was going to feed all the people. He asked God, “Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to provide enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered for them to provide enough for them?” (Numbers 11:22) Moses believed it could not be done. Even though he had seen God do amazing awe inspiring things He did not believe it could be done. Yet God replied “ I will give you meat and you shall eat it..for a whole month you shall eat it.” For has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen or not.” (Numbers 11:20;23) The result of God’s provision for meat was flocks of Quail flying into the camp in the middle of nowhere to provide their meat for 30 days. So much meat in fact that the Israelites grew tired of eating it.
The message God sent was,” Stop underestimating me and what I can do”, and He still says it to us today. Far too often when we have a need in our life or a desire in our heart, we try to figure out how we can make it happen. We reason just like Moses with our own mind and intellect how it is going to happen, or how God is going to get something to us. However in doing so we often underestimate God. But God is not limited by our reasoning, nor is He dependant on anything or anyone to fulfil His word and His promises. What He says, He will do and He can do things anyway He wants!
Whatever your need is today, God wants to be your source and supplier. You don’t have to figure out in your natural mind how God is going to get it to you. All you have to do is put your faith into gear, believe that what God says in His word is true, and position yourself to receive. The rest is up to God!
Today let’s stop reasoning and underestimating God, and instead choose to believe that God is able to do what He says He can, and then get ready for Him to receive.
“My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
“Now to Him who is able to (carry out His purpose and) do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think (infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams), according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)
Prayer: Lord please forgive me when I underestimate and underrate you, and help me to remember that you have more power in your whisper than all the power in the universe. Help me to lift my expectation, to know and receive the promises in Your Word and to position myself everyday to receive. In Jesus name Amen.
