24 July - Beyond What You See

I'm on the way home from being out on tour with our daughter Shara Rose. We've just passed through a town I've only heard the name of before but never visited, and I was surprised because I've always envisaged this location when people have mentioned it to me as dry and dusty, with little to offer. However, my preconceived judgement of the area couldn't be further from the truth.

There are green rolling hills, a vibrant wine and tourist industry and what looks like picture-perfect streets. It's by all accounts according to my travelling companions, a great place to visit and spend some time. But because of my pre conceived perceptions, I'd never considered visiting because I had a certain mental image and belief about this part of the world. The preconceived ideas and judgements we make can cause us to miss some of the amazing things God wants to reveal and bring into our lives. It's why it's wise to be open about the many opportunities, relationships and experiences that cross our path or present themselves and not discount things too quickly.

Instead, take some time to look at life from its many different angles and perspectives. Mix with other people beyond your usual social setting and circle, travel regularly, try new experiences, food, music, and art and explore life and all it has to offer outside your comfort zone. Doing these things regularly will help to broaden and enrich your perspective and overall enjoyment of life. God wants our view to be lifted to be like His so that the world becomes increasingly larger and more inspiring rather than limited, small and one-dimensional. Some of the greatest blessings can come wrapped up in a challenge, so don't be discouraged if you are stretched a little in pursuing new experiences or opportunities. I've discovered that God loves to surprise us, so watch out for His sneaky surprises and the unfolding of His plan for your life as you widen your view and perspective today.

"Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us." (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)

"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland." (Isaiah 43:19)

Prayer: Lord, please help me to lift my perspective and to learn to look at life from different angles rather than one-dimensionally all the time. I'm expecting you to do great things in and through me today. In Jesus name Amen
