We are surrounded by a world that is full of amazing and wonderful things. But alongside this are some elements that are not so great or beneficial to us. The question is, “How do we avoid getting caught up in the not so great elements, and how do we stand apart from them to live our best possible life?”
Separating yourself from an old habit or lifestyle means connecting yourself to something stronger, and when you know Jesus, He becomes that stronger. You are a new creation, separated spiritually from the kingdom of darkness and born anew into the kingdom of God. (Colossians 1:13)
However, if you don’t continue to focus on growing your relationship with Jesus and the knowledge of who you are in Him, you’ll easily be tempted to continue to live as you did before.
You may be separated from spiritual death, but you can still be physically, emotionally and mentally connected to your old way of life.
Jesus said in John 17:16-17, “Father, I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth, Your Word is truth.”
God and His Word are one, and He is stronger than any other force in the universe. To connect fully with that force, He says, sanctify yourself.
Sanctify means to be separate, and Jesus said you are to be separated by God’s Word and following what it says. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will transform and set you free.
Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)
I encourage you to choose to put your relationship with Jesus first every day and to spend time regularly reading and studying what He says. As you do this, the Word and God’s power will go to work in your life, separating and transforming you from your past habits, additions, poverty, anxiety, sickness into the things of God’s Kingdom and His abundant, overflowing life.
You don’t have to stress and struggle to do that, for the Word and Jesus’ power within you will do it for you, separating you from every negative aspect of this world toward the things of God. Read and think upon it; allow it to remain and abide in your life, and it will transform and equip you to live your best life.
“If you abide in me (Jesus) and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the power of your Word. Please help me immerse myself in your truth so that it will separate me from all the negativity of the world, enabling me to live the life you created me for and that your Word will go to work in me. In Jesus name Amen.
