One of the things I’ve come to realise is much of our life is routine, meaning that anything can become stagnant if we allow it to.
You can have an exciting job, but it can become boring or tiresome at times. You may be married or in a relationship with a loving, amazing person but if you don’t nourish that relationship and put something into it, then over time it’s likely to become stagnant.
The bible talks about stirring ourselves up everyday and fanning into flame the gifts that God has given us, so that what we have been blessed or gifted with does not become stale or taken for granted.
2 Tim 1:6 – “ Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Paul was saying “Timothy, don’t let your fire go out. Stay passionate about your life and purpose. Stay enthusiastic about your dreams, and watch how you are thinking and expecting.
Today there will be a spark within you, no matter how small, because you are still alive. Therefore you can do your part and fan that spark into flame.
Charles Capps felt the Lord say to him one day “My people say what they have, rather than having what they say.” Meaning talking about the bad stuff all the time just reinforces it’s negative power in our life. Instead we can start talking like Jesus talks. The devil doesn’t need our help “talking up” all the evil in the world. There’s enough people doing that already. God wants us to speak and to expect good things like He does, bringing heaven to earth.
Today I encourage you to stop looking at what may be wrong in your life and the world and start being grateful for what’s right!
To have an attitude of: “My dreams may not have come to pass yet; I may have had some obstacles in my path, but I know God is still in control. I know He’s got great things in store for me, so I’m going to get up each day and enjoy and be excited about my life.”
You may not have a perfect job, house, relationships, situation etc, but you can have an attitude of gratitude today, instead of an attitude of obligation.
You don’t HAVE to do anything, you GET to do it. God is the one who has given you breath so why not change it up today and appreciate the fact:
“You don’t have to go work – you get to go to work.
“You don’t have to take care of these kids, they’re a blessing; you get to take care of them”.
“You don’t have to study, you get to study and gain an education”.
“You don’t have to exercise and look after your health; you get to exercise and make good choices.”
“You don’t have to give; you get to give.”
Count your blessings today. Your heart is still beating, you still have breath and you get to be alive today. So stir yourself up; go for a walk or run, hug someone, call a friend for a catch up, do something that makes you glad you are alive today and thank God you get to do any of it!
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance for you serve the Lord Christ.” (Col 3:23)
“Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.” (Rom 12:11)
“Also, let Christ’s peace control you. God has called you into this peace by bringing you into one body. Be thankful. Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to teach and instruct yourselves about God’s kindness. Sing to God in your hearts“. (Colossians 3:15-17 God’s Word translation)
Prayer: Thank you Lord that I am alive today. Please help me to focus on the positives in my life, and “fan into flame” my God given gifts, and passion for life. Help me to better understand that I can’t control everything, but I do get to choose to enjoy today. In Jesus Name Amen.
