When David slayed Goliath he wasn’t focused on the How, he was focused on the Who. He remembered both who He was and who was with him as he took his slingshot, flung that rock and knocked the giant to the ground. David may have looked small, inexperienced and totally out of his depth, but he knew who he belonged to and the favour that was on his life as a result of his relationship with God. (1 Samuel 17)
Like David, when we shift our perspective off the how’s in our life and look instead to who is with us and who God says we are, we will slay giants much bigger than we are and become more than we ever imagined. (Ephesians 3:20)
Who we are is more powerful than any other force trying to stop us. We belong to the creator of the universe and no giant, no sickness, no pandemic, financial crisis or other people’s opinion is any match for God and who He says we are. He has the how’s all worked out and will equip and empower us for everything He directs us to do and become.
As a result we can start living from a place of faith, confidence and expectation. We don’t have to have the biggest resources, education, connections or even the most talent to succeed and overcome. When we look to God and recognise who He is and who we are He takes what we have and puts his favour and blessing on it.
David didn’t focus on the how’s when he faced the giant – He focused only on his who as he ran into victory. In doing so he stepped into his calling and destiny as the next King.
Today stop worrying about all the How’s in your life – God’s got them covered. Instead trust and find rest in your Who, and start living the life you were made for.
“Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.” (Isaiah 44:6 ESV)
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17 ESV)
“Do not fear. I have redeemed you. I have summoned you. You are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1).
“Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
Prayer: Lord I’m choosing to take my eyes off all the how’s in my life and to focus on who you are and who you have made me. I am fully able to do all things in you. In Jesus name Amen
