3 June – Listen To Your Words

When our kids were younger (we have six), I would often be so tired I’d feel physically sick by the end of the day. I’d understandably say, “Oh goodness, I’m so tired”. However, one day God stopped me in my tracks and said, “Stop saying you’re tired all the time. I will give you strength and lead and guide you in what you are to do and where you need to be. Every time you say, “I’m so tired, your body is listening and responding, and you are getting more and more tired every day”.

I chose to listen and discovered that as I stopped focusing and saying how tired I was, I had more energy, achieved more, and did not feel wrecked by the end of the day.

Our brain (and subsequently our body and emotions) does what it thinks we want, and our brain knows what we want by the words we speak out of our mouth. I was saying how tired I was, so I kept getting more and more tired.

As I started to speak differently about my energy levels, I began to feel better and energised regardless of whether I’d had sleep or not, and funnily enough, the kids would often sleep better too.

Our children are now older, but I still try to make sure I don’t speak, “I’m so tired, as I know my body is listening to everything I say. Instead, I speak, “I am strong, fitter than I’ve ever been, self-controlled, and my youth is being renewed like the eagles.” Isaiah 40:31)

When you speak energy, health, success, strength and things working out for your good, that is what will be headed in your direction. It’s how God works as he “calls those things that are not as though they are.” (Romans 4:17) You may not yet be experiencing what you are saying, but whatever you want to happen, speak life to it and expect things to happen.

Today, if you want to know where your life is going, listen to the words of your mouth. But don’t use your words to describe your life; use your words to change and shape the life you want.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)

A fool’s mouth is his ruin, And his lips are the snare of his soul.” (Prov 18:7)

“He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagles.” (Psalm 103:5)

God who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” (Romans 4:17)

Prayer: Lord, please help me watch over what I say and to practice speaking those things that I desire and that you say are beneficial and good for me. In Jesus name Amen.
