3 Sept – What You Put In

Deep down I think most of us want to be a person whose words are of value and worth listening to.

Jesus had some wisdom on how to be a person with great words. He said to be mindful of what you put into your life; what you look at, listen to and hold in your heart. For what you put in will come out.

A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of”. (Luke 6:45)

Great words that have to potential to move mountains in both our’s and other’s lives come from the great things stored up in our hearts. Which means we are going to have to choose to forgive quickly, keep from being offended and fill our hearts with those things that are good, true, praiseworthy, and worth thinking about. What we allow into our hearts and think about is what we are going to speak and have faith for.

We are made in Gods image and it was by His spoken word that the universe was created. It’s also therefore by our words that we have the power to create and to exercise our faith to move mountains.

“Mountain moving” words that cause angels to act and encourage and inspire others are created when we listen to God’s voice and fill our hearts and minds with what is positive, faith-filled and loving. These things will essentially flush out negatives and any attitudes which are harmful to both our life and to those listening to us.

God revealed how to cultivate great words by instructing us to give our attention to, “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things”. (Philippians 4:8) What we say is quite simply a reflection of what is stored up in our hearts?

Today I encourage you to do a word inventory on your speech, texts and messages. Deal quickly with anything that has or does negatively affect your heart and mind, and choose to surround yourself everyday with positive life giving words and associations, because what you put in, will come out.

“Bless the LORD, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, obeying the voice of his word! (Psalm 103:20)

For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of” (Luke 6:45)

“Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! (Psalm 141:3)

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” (Proverbs 15:1 NASB)

The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly.” (Proverbs 15:2 ESV)

“The heart of the godly thinks carefully before speaking.” (Proverbs 15:28 NLT)

Prayer: Lord please remind me to fill up my heart and mind with those things that bring life, so that my speech will be full of life giving words. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight today. In Jesus name Amen.
