31 May – Commit To Change

I realised something about myself, and it’s that I actually like change. I might not think I do in the middle of a transition when life is messy, and I’m feeling stretched. But I do like change, and I like being around people who embrace that philosophy of life too.

It’s because change means growth, and I believe we all have the capacity for massive growth and development in every area of our lives.

It is fear and pride that causes a person to have the attitude: “This is who I am, either like it or lump it.”

I read an article about marriage, but it’s a great analogy and attitude for us to have for all of our lives and relationships. It said:

We may fall in love with any person, but it’s beneficial if the person we choose to marry embodies one particular quality: that they are committed to change and transformation.

Don’t look for someone perfect, but for someone very aware they aren’t perfect but wants to grow and be better every day.

Don’t be in a relationship with people because of who they are or who you want them to be, but for who they are determined to become. Then spend a lifetime joining them in their becoming, as they join you in yours.“

There is something powerful and special about a person who looks toward who they want to be and who has a commitment to transformation and a vision and purpose.

God loves us just the way we are. He accepts us as we are, but He also loves us too much to leave us like. He knows that we can have and become so much more than we can imagine if we only choose to follow and be open to Him shaping our lives.

I encourage you today to seek to be a person and be with someone who commits to growth and transformation. Invite God into every area of your life to grow and develop you to be all that you can be.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:10)

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:1-2)

Prayer: Lord, I invite you to bring growth and change to every area of my life. Help me remember that you love and accept me just as I am, but you also love me too much to leave me with some of my attitudes and hurts. Please help me to continually grow to be all that you created me to be. In Jesus Name Amen.
