Sometimes in life we just need to stop and RESET. To reset something is to set it again or anew; to change the setting and reading back to the start or zero.
When we invite Jesus to be part of our lives our spirit and whole being is made totally new; we are a new creation. (2 Cor 5:17) However our soul; our mind, will and emotions can fail to acknowledge our new creation reality and remains thinking and behaving like our old “man,” as our flesh battles with our spirit.
We can continue on or fall back into our “dead man’s” way of life instead of living out the new life Jesus has gifted to us. That’s when we all can benefit from pushing the “reset button” and choosing again to align our souls with our born again spirit. To determine to pull our flesh into line with our spirits so that we don’t continue to do, look and think upon the things we have no business, or take our born again self’s into places that they should never go.
The best way to check our lives and to enable us to push the reset button is to repent.
Repentance actually means not just asking for forgiveness for our sins and mess-ups but to do a complete 180 degrees turn away from the lifestyle, relationships, habits and mindsets that are causing us to stumble, lose our hope or don’t reflect Jesus in us. To repent also means to come up – like a penthouse is on the top floor of a building – repent is to go higher – to leave the low life and come up to a higher way of living, to set our hearts and minds upon heaven and to live from that space and heart attitude.
“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”(2 Corinthians 5:17)
Fix our focus– If we have allowed ourselves to get off focus and we know we have let things slip in our life, whether that is in our behaviour, habits, eating, exercise, time with Jesus or in our relationships then to reset we make a decision to change where we are looking and ask God to fill us with His power, love, ability to fix our focus. Essentially we reset our mind and hearts upon what they are really designed to be looking upon and holding, and detach ourselves from anything that doesn’t resemble Jesus and His ways. We don’t have to do this alone as God’s power at work in us enables us to live out our new life if we will allow Him to take the reins and empower us. “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get side tracked; keep your feet from following evil.”(Proverbs 4:25-27 NLT)
Today whatever state you may find yourself in take some time to reflect honesty on how you have been living. Does your life reflect your new creation, renewed existence or does it resemble someone who is carrying a “dead man” around, which is only contaminating every new and set apart part of your life?
I recommend today pushing the reset button, getting things sorted, fixing your focus and cutting any “dead thing” loose and coming up! And, I pray for you today that “according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:16-19)”
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
“And he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the ancient man, the old self – life, which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful desires that spring from delusions. Now it’s time to be made new by every revelation that’s been given to you. And to be transformed as you embrace the glorious Christ-within as your new life and live in union with him! For God has re-created you all over again in his perfect righteousness, and you now belong to him in the realm of true holiness.” (Ephesians 4:22-24 TPT)
Prayer: Lord I’m pressing the reset button on my life today. Forgive me of…….., and please set me free from my failings, sin, hurt and disappointment and cleanse me where I have entered into things that I’ve had no business doing and thinking upon. I trust you to help me fix my focus, to reset my heart upon you and heaven and to keep running my race today. In Jesus name Amen.
