5 Feb – A Heavenly Advantage

I love being right. Who doesn’t? But I especially love when I have spent time seeking God, felt him say something to me and then have it confirmed by what happens next. Sometimes this occurs instantly as things line up with what God’s said, and other times I have to stand on what I believe until it happens. Nonetheless, it’s pretty cool when you know that you’ve heard directly from the Creator of the Universe and that He is speaking now to you about your life and purpose. It’s got very little to do with us, and everything to do with Him and His desire to have a close friendship and relationship with us.

Recently my husband was in prayer and saw a vision of a specific place in our city. However, in his vision, large trucks were driving down into a mine shaft. He googled the exact location that he’d seen in his vision and discovered there were head offices for a mining company in that spot. He sought the Lord and felt to buy shares in the company. A few weeks later, those shares doubled, and we made a profit.

That is what I call a Heavenly advantage

God loves us and cares about every detail of our lives and is always looking for ways to bless us. I’ve learnt that God speaks in many different ways as we seek to know Him more. He speaks through His Word as we take time to read it, through visions, dreams, a knowing in our hearts, seeing things in the Spirit (which look like a door opening into another place, or a picture of something in front of us). He speaks through angelic and heavenly visitations, through a message or encouragement someone gives us, our natural surroundings, and by becoming familiar with His voice speaking to our hearts.

You learn to discern God’s voice amongst the many others clamouring for your attention by valuing what He has to say. If you think you are hearing Him speak to you, then I encourage you to:

  1. Write it down so that you won’t forget. Much like you keep a text or phone message from someone special or important so that you can look back on and listen to it later.

  2. Examine the “Word” you believe you have heard against what the Bible says. God doesn’t change so if it contradicts the principles and guidance in the Bible it won’t be God.

  3. Wait and pray

  4. Seek mature counsel from those who you are confident hear from God too.

  5. Ask and allow God to confirm the Word to you.  That can be through another person, a repeat message or events becoming aligned with what you believe God has spoken to you, like the mining company being in the location my husband saw the mine shaft and trucks in his vision.

Jesus fully expects that we will know His voice and that in doing so, we will have a heavenly advantage.

Joseph, dream to avoid Herod’s soldiers after the birth of Jesus signifies a heavenly advantage. Or another Joseph in the Bible understands a dream to prepare and provide for the coming famine. David had a heavenly advantage in receiving battle plans from the Lord as he inquired of him.

Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27).

Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; He will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.“ (John 16:13)

If you know Jesus and choose to seek to understand and hear from Him, you will have a heavenly advantage in every area of your life. In your business dealings, work, study, relationships, and even where to find a parking spot.

Are you tuning into your heavenly advantage today?

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you speak to us and make known to us great and hidden things. Please help me tune the ears and eyes of my heart to you, Lord. In Jesus name Amen
