We possess both physical eyes to see into the natural world as well as spiritual eyes which enable us to see into the future and the spirit realm.
God made us that way and when you read the bible you realise just how important what we see and imagine is to God and is part of His way of doing things. There are over 400 scriptures referring to our imagination, dreams and visions and I’ve been discovering that our imaginations are an “on ramp” into heavenly places.
First Peter 1:13 tells us to, “Gird up the loins of your mind,” primarily I think because it is with our minds that we imagine and it is with our minds that God often reveals what and where He wants us to act or believe for.
Loins (which involves the centre back muscles, are regarded as the centre of physical strength and power and the Greek word for mind in is this passage is “dianoia” (dee-an-oy-ah) or imagination – the centre of the power in our mind. When we gird up the “Loins of our mind” we automatically strengthen our imagination (which is very powerful) and God’s ability to speak to us.
God gave Abraham a vision of the stars of the sky and told him he would have many children. As he gazed at the starts overhead he used his imagination to see his yet to be born children and their children. This imagining upon the promise and what he saw over his head then produced faith in Abraham’s heart (Genesis 15:5-6).
It was an example of godly imagery where Abraham girded up the loins of his mind – his imagination to see what God saw which produced faith in Him.
There’s a saying a picture is worth a 1000 words, so when we see or focus upon something or someone it has the power to change us much more than when we simply think a thought.
Don’t fix your thoughts and imagination on problems, worry or things that lead you off track or away from God’s best for your life. That uses your imagination to empower fear, anxiety and unhealthy thoughts and emotions.
Use it instead to magnify the bigness of God, his goodness and all that He desires to do in your life.
Take the promises in God’s Word and any other scriptures He has given you and start to imagine and dream with them. See yourself overcoming addictions, bad habits and any fears. See yourself healing the sick, raising the dead, preaching in stadiums or starting orphanages, to have a job you love, to see your family blessed, to be healthy and whole. Whatever Jesus has put in your heart to do and be, imagine that and start to see all that you have pictured become a reality!
“So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.” (Romans 8:6 TPT)
“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.
Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.” (Joel 2:28-32)
Prayer: Lord thank you for my imagination which is a powerful tool to kick start my faith and believing. Please help me to see what you see when you look at me and that I would gird up my mind and strengthen it with your thoughts, visions and plan for my life. I picture good things for my life knowing that all things are possible in you. In Jesus Name Amen.
